Peel, core, and dice one medium apple. Thinly slice another half apple for topping and set aside.
In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups (480 ml) of water or milk to a boil. Add 1 cup (240 ml) of Quaker Oats, diced apple, 2 tbsp (30 ml) of brown sugar, 1 tsp (5 ml) of ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt (optional). Stir well to combine.
Reduce the heat to medium and cook the oatmeal, stirring occasionally, for about 5 minutes or until the oats are tender and the apples are soft.
Once cooked, pour the oatmeal into bowls. Top with thinly sliced apple, an additional 1 tsp (5 ml) of brown sugar, and a pinch of ground cinnamon if desired.
